On the afternoon of March 16, 2008, Shao Mingli, commissioner of the State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA), gave a group interview to Chinese and foreign journalists at the press center for the first session of the 11th NPC and the first session of the 11th CPPCC National Committee. It is the first time for Commissioner Shao Mingli to give an interview to mass media after the State Council's institutional restructuring scheme was officially approved on March 15 at the first session of the 11th NPC and the SFDA was put under the Ministry of Health.
In his reply to the journalists' questions on the function adjustment of SFDA after the State Council's institutional restructuring move, Shao Mingli indicated that it was an important decision made by the CPC Central Committee and the State Council with an aim to further straighten out food and drug supervision system, strengthen the intensity of food and drug safety supervision, raise the efficiency of supervision and ensure food and drug safety for the public.
During the interview, Shao Mingli and other senior officials of SFDA answered questions posed by the reporters on "food and drug safety assurance for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games", "the national essential medicine policy and the policy on designated production of essential drugs", "the building of drug supervision network and drug supply network in rural areas and the building of demonstration counties of food safety" and "the latest investigation results on 'the incident of heparin sodium' ".
